Morning all. 2 queries for today.
1. Searched the archives but could find nought on Dtronic replacement chips. I accept they work and apparently quite well, but does installing one overstress any part of the drivetrain and/or engine. And what about warranty issues. I've never had it explained to my satisfaction why the TD5 Fender is de-tuned compared to TD5 Discos. It has been suggested the auto in the Disco can better handle the increased power/torque, but I was under the impression the drivetrain in the Fender was hd in any event.
2. I installed a shade cloth bug screen on the back of the bull bar for our trip to FNQ back in August. It worked well with a sizeable air gap between it and the grill. No appreciable increase in engine temp. It's still in place however I've recently read articles where it is suggested they are not necessarily the bees knees for intercooled turbo diesels.
Any thoughts/comments on either of the above gratefully received.

Given that the shade cloth is on the bar opposed to directly on the grille, there should be plenty of cool air still reaching the intercooler.
On the other hand, if it's removeable, why have it in place around town etc when it's not needed?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

It is, but we went to the trouble of punching eyelets for the spottie cables.
No big deal, but need to pull them apart to feed the wiring back.
That in itself is not a problem ... unless you suffer an extreme case of indolence, for which I find a cure quite difficult ...
Kev, looks like a tad more research on the chip is required.
Cheers
Have a look at the current issue of Australian 4WD monthly. Haven't had a chance to read the whole article yet but they state a possible 178KW for a rechipped TD5!!! Dont know if that is Disco only or not??
Cheers Gaz.
There is somebody on the Overlander forum (frenchie I think) who has a chipped TD5 Defender, don't know where he got the chip from though.

4x4 Monthly #73 has a great article on the Chip. Some are replaced some are remapped. The power boost can be programed to Disco's and Defenders. Sounds like it fairly makes the Landy get along.
Hi All
I have had my ECU remapped by Bruce Davis Performance Landy and it has increased the power to ~130Kw and torque to ~400Nm. They also do an intercooler upgrade which takes the power to ~160Kw and torque to ~460Nm.
I am very happy with mine at 130Kw. To say it is a completely different car to drive is an understatement. Low end torque is better, but still a weak point, especially offroad with a trailer. Highway performance is awesome, rarely change back to fourth. Overall fuel comsumption does not appear to be affected.
They also wiped the ECU's memory so LR cannot detect that it has been done, although I understand one dealer on the North Shore (Sydney) offers the upgrade as an option.
For $850 bucks, it the best addition to 'Kimba' I have made.
Regards
I had my Beast serviced at Southside Landrover in WA last week and when talking to the Service bloke about the chip, he said Southside could do the job for me there. I assumed that it was all legal with the dealer by the way he was talking. I'm back in for some warrenty work next Monday so will make the enquiries then.
