    The first of them had a crude full time arrangement

    Is it? I think the Jeep had a 15A 6v (90W) generator and the Landrover 12v 10A (120W).

    I thought that part of the discussion was talking about where the difference in weight comes from. The Jeep generator is physically larger and heavier than the Landrover generator.
    The Lucas C39 as fitted to SI and SII Landrovers is nominal 12V 19A and the Lucas C40 as fitted to SIIa Landrovers is nominal 12V 22A. The Autolite generator as fitted to WWII Jeeps is nominal 6V 40A. The Autolite 6V regulator has two large cutout contacts to handle the extra current. Electrical capacity would then be close enough between the two to be considered the same.

    You are probably right - but the 12v battery is much heavier than the 6v one (not double, agreed). But much of the higher weight comes from the stronger chassis (the Jeep relies on body for part of its strength, making a tailgate unfeasible).

    Elegant yes, but no 4WD in reverse . the freewheel isn't lockable.

    A 4.7 diff ratio means the Propellor shaft turns 4.7 times for the Axle to turn once.

    extrapolate same answer to your transfer case, except you have a high and low ratio

    The overall low gear Ratio is the Diff ratio x !st gear ratio x low transfer gear ratio
    which in the case of your Series one is 40.676 which means the Engine turns 40.676 revolutions for one turn on the axle
