My 2010 110 Defender Puma has developed a screaming noise from either the water pump or the vacuum pump. At idle barely noticeable but once put under load there's a high pitched 'scream' from one of these two areas. Had the serpentine belt off and there seems some play in the water pump pulley and the pulley spins as if the bearings may be on the way out. (Im less inclined to think the vacuum pump bearings are at falt as there seems no play in the pulley and it seems quite tight). The noise from the cabin can be described as if there were dry bearings spinning at high speed.

Has anyone else with a puma 2.4 experienced anything like this? And what is the solution? I'm tempted to just replace the water pump +/- vacuum pump at the same time. Are the water and vacuum pumps bearings accessible for easy replacememt? (The serpetine belt is only three weeks old. The truck seemed to develop this problem after taking a pretty good dunking at some bog and water holes in the Brindabellas).

Help?!
