I can't help a lot, but have a browse through the gallery page, I know that there are some pics of a couple of defender overhead consoles in there.

1. get a piece of chequer plate alum that will fit across and sit on the internal gutters. make sure it has a 1" lip across the edge facing you (to keep things behind the shelf, and to stop you slicing your head open in an accident.

2. use a hole saw to cut holes to fit aircraft style down lights, drill holes for any switches you may want to mount and for a wiring loom to come up.

3. glue closed cell foam (about 5mm) to the outside surface, then glue automotive carpet or vinyl on top.

4. cut slits where the holes for accessories are.

5. fit the accessories (lights, switches, CB brakets etc)

6. run a single 6mm positive wire to the top to feed all your accessories. a good idea is to mount a small fuse box on the under side of the console, fed from the top. That way everything on your console is fed by one power wire, but each item has it's own fuse, and these can be easily accessed from your seat.

7. secure with a small right angle tag to the underside of the console and the lip of the internal gutter on each side.

8. count your savings
$10 alum
$5 glue
$2 wire
$5 foam
$2 vinyl / car carpet
$10 fuse box
$20 aircraft down lights

now that you've saved yourself $400, go and buy a decent UHF radio.

Unless ofcourse you have more money than time, in which case those consoles on the above links looked pretty good.

Hi,
I have one for sale that goes across the front ( Ie:from door to door ). Will send photos if you are interested. The one I have for sale is made by Rono consoles in Queensland. It has 2 radio holes in it ( 1 x uniden PC122, 1 x uniden UH011 ). Have all the screws for fitting and can help if you live on the west side of Melb.
Cheers
