Check that the idler pulley is not stuffed just below your compressor. I had to replace mine last week as the bearing had spun in the pulley and the local stealer wanted $170. The old man got one in Adelaide for me for $20.

Hi all, was out 4wding in some muddy country on the weekend (garderns of stone national park, the day before i went out we had 2in of rain) anyway back to the problem, towards the end of the trip a buzzing/werring type sound started coming from the front of the engine. After close inspection i have come to the conclusion that the sound is definitely coming from one of the pullies which makes up the track for the main belt on the front of the motor, I am quite sure it is coming from the pully on the air con pump. What i would like to know is can the pully be removed and the bearing greased or can a new bearing be fitted or is the damage likely to be internal and expensive? Please help. Matt

Ace,
If it is the AC belt tensioner this can be replaced with a "6023" bearing (sealed). About $10 worth.
You will need to press out the old one and like wise in with the new.
This is an easy job.
The same bearing is used on the main belt tensioner but is more of a fiddle.

Thanks OI, most helpful, i am certain its not mis alignment, as the noise turned up after ploughing through deep puddle, Yeah i know its no good for your rig but damn it was fun, and its more of a werring noise than a belt squeaking sound. I will take the belt off to see which pulley feels a bit rough when you spin it. Matt
