    1996 Discovery with problems?

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I have a 1996 Discovery V8i. Its been a champion car, but recently it has taken to not starting?

It will turn over but does seem to be getting fuel. It happens more regularly now, I usually wait ten minutes speak nicely and then she's kick over, more recently this isn't happening and I flatten batteries, never take it anywhere important and I've run out of nice things to convice the old the girl to start?

Could anyone offer advice, I've had it checked at the local garage, they seem to think its okay?

P.S also very interested in putting in a Chev ? any information or links would be great!

are you sure it is fuel

sounds like an ignition amp module to me...

have you checked the fuel filter ?

have you pulled a HT lead off to see if it is getting a nice blue spark?

have you checked the little vacuum lines going to the distributor esp at the joiners and splitters?

I know exactly where you're coming from.
Had the same prob and it seems unless the 'sperts can actually witness the prob they have no answer. Most annoying.

If it's any consolation we took the beast on an extended trip outback last year and the only time it played up was at Curtin Springs. Spoke nicely to the mongrel and a few mins later all was well.

I found this peculiar habit most frustrating, given that it seemed to be totally random ... almost had me believing I had adopted a vehicle of the feminine gender.

If you can find the cause I would be interested, but only from an academic stand as it is no longer relevant to moi.

    Cheers

I used to have a 1992 Disco, that I had to have the fuel pump replaced.

Symptoms were hard to start and gutless running.
Carnt remember why the pump had failed but a replacement fixed it.
Silly place to put the damned thing inside the fuel tank .
Was advised and tempted to replace it with an external GMH pump.

the ecu was a big cause of intermittent problems, after the fuel pumps.
if it does it again give the fuel tank a bit of a kick. it used to get them started for me on several occasions. ecu is a last resort.

Had similar in my disco.....just a couple of times would not start. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Next time it won't go, tap all around the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet or similar then try again, sometimes a small technical tap will start the pump again....
