    I need help starting.

    About 2 weeks ago it started.
    Only in the morning I have to turn key about 3 times before it starts. Just had glow plugs replaced 2 days ago. Seems to run a bit smoother but still same problem starting in morning. Once I have started and run first time in the day then it starts d it go every time. What is the problem please?

    So in turning the key a few times, does the engine turn over without any unusual sounds, or is the starter motor not engaging? What is the condition of the starting battery ( how old is it)? I'd be checking that first - and then provide some more information about the difficult starting.... Is this an every day driver for you, or only weekends and the like?

    Everyday driver. The motor turns as soon as I turn the key but won't usually start until about the 3rd go. I'm guessing the glow plugs aren't heating up long enough maybe. Just had service done. Oil.filters.etc. had scan done and no faults.

    No unusual sounds apart from a suction or pumping noise from the fuel cap area but then stops after about 10 seconds.

    Had a similar problem here.
    Although 300 TDI, was a bad main earth to the gearbox.
    Poor start first thing in the morning, then fine for the rest of the day.


    I diagnosed mine by using a jumper lead from the block to the battery.

    Do you wait for the glow plug light on the dash to go out before you crank or do you just insert the key and turn straight away, if so wait till the lights on the dash go out before cranking, Regards Frank.

    Thanks all for help. Yes I do wait for glow plug light to go out. No I haven't checked earth to gearbox yet. Could it be coil? Should the glow icon always come on our only when starting first time when cold?
