Hi Moses, thanks, I know all about the glow plugs etc on a diesel but auto electrics is one area of knowledge which i need to improve, when it comes to mechanical knowledge of how things work and being able to repair things, auto electrics is the only area in which i dont feel confident diving into. This is a really common fault, all dealers would know about it, I know of cars that have gone through 3 alarm issolators. I'd still be checking the ignition amp first.

A big thanks to all who posted particularly Dragon wagon. The info was invaulable and the Discovery is now fixed....err well almost............

Since starting regularly she has developed something which I suspect is far more worrying........She makes a terrible din in the exhaust and has hestitation on hard acceleration, suggested cause is the catylitic converter which may be causing a blockage in the exhaust system ( thats what it feels and sounds like too!)

Local Rover quoted $1000 - $2000 for a replacement...............PLEASE anyone got any suggestions.................Is it possible ( note not legal) to run the old girl without the CC? can the CC be removed? what engine mods need to effected to run without...Anyone know of a Discovery wrecker for a 2nd hand one?

What year is it, most Ozzy Discos don't have cats, is it a series 2 or a private import?

I doubt that it has cats more likly a loose baffle in the muffler from hitting something of road. If it does have cats just fitt some engine pipes of one that doesn't and get rid of them I haven't seen a 96 with cats. Get under the car an hit the exhaust you will soon find the noise. My 94 doesn't have any cats nor does my mates 96. If it is a private import from another market it my have some.
