8) thanks for that, i have a mystery stoppage like that, never has starting problem, but for no reason it dies now and again, usually just turn the key off wait twenty seconds or so and restarts normally.
the fault starts out by running rough, as if in limp mode, sorta feels as if one bank [v8 disco] is not firing until it stalls by riching out.
the only thing i am curious about is does my 95 disco have this spider, as it didn't have a factory security system?
and my '95 doesn't have a cat'
and the land rover muffler can be replaced with a flow thru 'turbo' muffler quite cheaply and sounds nice, without too much cabin noise.
throw a set of five air horns on the front to let'em know you're coming and the v8 burble outback to tell'em you're gone

I think the ign issolator was fitted 96 on, your fault sounds more like dodgy airflow meter connection or ign amp.

Is the pump/tank ok? I spent 2 days on an XJ40 Jag only to find the tank was full of mud.

Problem solved
the noise took a huge turn for the worse and it very obvious it was a drive shaft or diff problem......which it was.... the rear coupling had softened up and the shaft was twisting pretty wildly...lucky it didn't let go completely!
On the cat converter, yes 1996 Discovery are supposed to have them they sit on the right of the engine pipe as it leaves the manifold, ...But that whole plumbing has been removed and replaced with extractors.......I'can't believe its been through Rego inspections several times....................

I have a 96 Disco EFI and thee are no cats. I believe Aus stds let them in as they where allowed to be imported as trucks and trucks didn't have to meet the stringent EPA rules that applied to passenger cars in that year???
