Those bolts are there to stop oil leaks at the front of the head . The oil flicking off the chain can be forced between the head & gasket if not clamped tight

Yes indeed, two of us for lift off but I will have an extra when putting it back on just to make sure it everything goes down nice and straight.

Update, the td5 lives again. New head gasket all done

Thanks all, I finally got everything back on and fired it up again last night, well early this morning really. Too late to test it all properly so to work on the train today and into proper testing tonight or tomorrow.

Needed some serious bleeding of the fuel system to get it going but reading through threads here, the full throttle approach worked and it was easy to start again once it had fuel where it needed to be.

Thanks again to Psimpson7 for all the great pics in the head gasket replacement threads.
