I'm not exactly sure why there's a stud there, but there'll be a reason. As long as the dowels are both in place (steel dowels not plastic), and the gasket is sat correctly, the head should slide over that easily. Have someone handy when you are positioning the head... It makes it a lot easier!

Those bolts are there to stop oil leaks at the front of the head . The oil flicking off the chain can be forced between the head & gasket if not clamped tight

Thanks all, I finally got everything back on and fired it up again last night, well early this morning really. Too late to test it all properly so to work on the train today and into proper testing tonight or tomorrow.

Needed some serious bleeding of the fuel system to get it going but reading through threads here, the full throttle approach worked and it was easy to start again once it had fuel where it needed to be.
