    TD4/5 into older Rangie

    gday,
just a question out of curiostiy more than anything. Has anyone installed a Td4/td5 into a rangie classic? i know they were setup like this in the UK.
i have a 87model and have always thought in the back of my head that it would be nice to bang in the legendary TD5.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Late (90's) Classics are rare in Oz; they didn't sell them from dealers; but were available other markets; you may find a private import?
If you are going to fit ANY small diesel to a Rangie, I'd strongly suggest a Zf auto, as it works much better behind a 200 or 300 Tdi than a manual; the torque converter gets you past the sluggishness off the line.
My first diesel transplant was a Mitsubishi 3.3L 4cyl (ex Canter truck!) into 1985, 5 speed manual, fitted a R380. I turboed AND intercooled it so it was a real stump puller once the turbo started @ 1800 rpm, but off the line was still "doughy". It had a limited rev range, up to only 3300 rpm! Great tow car ( once off the line.)
2nd Diesel transplant was a 300 Tdi int my then 1993 Rangie, retaining the auto; a few small tweaks to motor/intercooler and it went almost as hard as a 3.9L V8! The auto was excellent- not so bad off the line and shines rock crawling- never stalls!
3rd Diesel transplant in current 1994/5 "soft dash" LSE is TD5 with it's (electronic) auto, plus MAJOR rewiring, 3 more computers, LOTS of hours figuring it out, LOTS of $$$$$, but what a great car! Makes a 3.9L V8 look like a slug! in "std" tune; soon to fit an upgraded ECM with 400+ Nm torque! plus about 25 extra Kw! The so-called "diehards" may shudder in their boots, but I've retained the BW viscous T'fer case, ABS+ ETC, air suspension, added "air-bag compatable" bullbar (with hidden winch), rear bar with exterior tyre carrier, wing tanks (1 for fuel, 1 for water), integrated side steps, custom "LSE-long" roof rack, etc, etc.
It is the roomiest Rangie ever built and hasn't really suffered too much in turning circle, but it rides and steers MUCH better than the 100" wheelbased Rangies (I've had 3).
The 300 Tdi is a great motor and easy to fit; no added electronics!

I've seen a Rangie with "TD5" stickers. So I presume it had a TD5 under the bonnet. It would have been probably an '85.
