were they both doing the same trip?
or was the wife doing stop start traffic to shops and back?

my wife uses more fuel than me because she keeps it floored till she brakes. wont let it coast or simply roll to the lights.
patience saves fuel....dont floor it, keep revs down, etc.
its easy to save fuel but very boring !!

I get between 9-12L/100km, depending on the driving. Most of my trips are open country roads, but they are shorter trips. Off road work see the consumption top out at between 11-12L/100km the type of terrain doesnt seem to change it much, ie high revs low range stuff or high range 1st doddling along.
For those of you who are interested, a member of my local 4wd club has been trialing a new diesel fuel additive in both his garbage truck and his new diesel courier, he is reporting less smoke, 10% more power and
10%+ better economy (these vary depending on vehicle. Its called BlueGold Technology and costs around $250 for 5 litres, not sure if smaller bottles are available, but 5mL treats 20L of diesel. Contact details- Phone- 02 49755644 or email- info@bluegold.com.au. It might seem pricey but for the average joe 5L will last a long time and a 10% saving totals 11c/L if the fuel costs 1.10/L, that $9 everytime you fill up a 90L tank from empty, that would add up tp alot of money over the course of a year. The club member has distributed a small sample bottle to treat a few tank loads I will let you know how it goes in the Disco. Matt

I can get down to about 14l/100 on the highway if I do about 95-100 but I normally get bored and go a bit quicker and get around 18l/100

Around town I have given because I will get scared. I have down before and it was like 26l/100 or something like that.

We average about 11/12ltrs per 100k in our 20 year old 110 County Diesel, it has 430,000k's on the clock the engine has only had Injectors serviced at 260.000k's I would drive it to the Moon if there was a road, it's always ready to go somewhere except work gets in the way (I only go to support my habits Landrovers of course!!) cheers Dennis

I thought this might make you V8 boys feel better about you fuel economy. I was at Bathurst on race day and Victor Bray had his 3000hp burnout car cruising around. In one laps worth of burnouts around the mountain he used 120L of fuel. Thats 1904.76L/100km if im not mistaken, thats based on Mount Panorama being 6.3Km long. But when you live life a quarter mile at a time who cares hey. Matt

O.k. You guys made reference to me having a lead foot. Well. Since then I've been driving very sedately, generally not getting above about 2000rpm before changing gears. My fuel consumption's unchanged, still around the 20l/100km mark, even during a day of hard low range work thae consumption stayed the same.

Hi Disco95, I had problems with fuel consumption in my series 2 disco and while trying to get it to perform better ( never did ), I was told by LRA that the fuel pump pressure plays a major part in the amount of fuel that is consumed so even if you drive carefully, you may not be able to improve it by much because of the effect the pump has on the consumption.

That makes sense, because it's a pressurized system. I'm not too worried about it. I know what it uses and live with it. I just thought I'd do a bit of an experiment and see how it went. I think I may change the vacuum advance unit, someone mentioned that that made a big difference to theirs.
