Shane, it's not the OH&S issue, it's the draconian policing and fines by the Dept of Heritage and the Environment to mechanics/tech's/companies servicing the stuff.

I'll write you out a service sticker if you like. Each bottle of hychill comes iwth dozens of them.
What a load of rancid stinky cow manure. Filling LPG bottles is way more dangerous... And I've done countless bottles.... There is no requirements to even be trained as far as I know.
I can just see a Roadworthy testing lifting the bonnet on a 30+ year old car and saying "where the certificate of safety for the A/C " that probalby hasn't worked or been hooked up for 25years..... It'll be like compliance plates on my trailer right ?? "This trailer cannot be registered there is no compliance plate" ....... "Sigh, ... go buy one for $5.00 bux ... fill it out myself ... take trailer bakc to usless sacks of **** at Vicroads for the 5th time..to see what they want now
).
NO WAIT, I've got it .... I can just see cops pulling over random cars to do "A/C service label checks"![]()

Did I tell you about the time I rang the water board and told them the meter tap was ****ing water everywhere through the shaft after I turned it off. They asked me why I would need to touch the meter tap.... I figured I better not say "I was up in the roof changing the float valve in the hot water service header tank" ...... So I said "I was changing a tap washer" .............. Get this .... I was told I should have got a licensed plumber out .... Yes to change a tap washer. Being a rather blunt person I said "Yes I know, water is so ****ing dangerous... I should have a licence. I changed a light bulb yesterday too .... but that's fine, power is nice and safe so I didn't need anyone licensed for that" ........................ silence ....... "We'll send someone out to fix it, have a nice day sir".
You know is the USA they can buy freon/refrigerant from there local milkbars pretty much .... You seen how many people are maimed and injured everyday over there from playing with the A/C systems on there cars right![]()

I understand that. It's still unworkable. There's some exceptional AC guys out there.... like all industries there's still lots of shonks that'll stick another shot of refrigerant in there ..... and some more tracer die (taking the AC oil/die mixture upto about 10% oil, 90% tracer die) and saying "see how long she lasts this time mate". ....
'Cos it's often quite hard to find the leaks, especially where the TX valves and evaporators are buried 10hours labour deep into a dashboard of a 10year old car. Making the car a writeoff from a financial perspective to fix.
As industry moves more towards the hydrocarbon refrigerants it'll become null and void either way. You see I'd release more gas into the atmosphere anytime I fill an LPG BBQ bottle, than a leaky A/C unit in a car would over it's liftetime.

My local aircon guy "Coastal Cool Air" on the Central coast has hoses and fittings and a crimper.
I would think many of the mobile aircon service blokes would have these.
You could get it all done at once . New hoses and gas up.

Yep but it's the one draconian regulations Nazi that's out there that can throw the book at you that you have to watch for, and since I'm liscenced in the trade I can't just tell you "no, she'll be right have at it" even though most of the blokes on this forum could probly do a better job than half the slackers who are out there in the trade.
And the problem isn't the move to hydrocarbon a, it's the government being addicted tongue income that the gasses generate.
Off the top r600 is propane (or its 290) and I can buy it as lab gas cheaper then in can with the refrigerant version and it's got an identicle composition and msd.
I don't get in trouble for venting the lab gas version, I do for the refrigerant, go figure.
