Hello All,
Two of my spare parts Series 3 LWB Land Rovers that were fitted with a 2.6 litre engine have had just about all the wires relating to headlights cut off at the indicator-horn stalk. One of these vehicles definitely has a head light relay fitted.
Is it a common practice to cut off or disconnect wires if a headlight relay is fitted in the engine bay?
Instead of just unplugging the 5 pin junction that the indicator stalks are manufactured with one of the previous owners cut all the wires half way between the indicator stalk and the junction! I have to ask why do people do these kind of things?![]()
Oh and their wire joining technique was to strip the wires at both ends, twist them together and then cover them with black tape. No soldering, no shrink tube, no insulated crimp joiners.
A full description identifying what headlight related wires have been cut has been posted over at the Series Land Rover > Series 3 site - click on this link and it will take you there - thank you
Headlight Wires & Relays
Kind Regards
Lionel
Lionel,
The only headlamp wires to the switch on the column are for switching from high beam to low beam so has another dip switch been fitted (eg. floor mounted). Otherwise it would be odd to cut them off.
Usually the original wiring is used but instead of powering the lights directly it switches the relays which have an additional heavy duty feed wire.
I have to rewire the relays on Wallit because some of the connections were dubious and the relays had corroded & broken terminals.
As to the wiring bodges.....at least they covered them with insulating tape.
