Diff Ratios on Defender and Disco

    Hi all,
I'm about to put 31" tyres on my Disco.
I've been told that Defenders have 31" as Standard.

What is the ratio of the Diffs used in the Defenders?? is it the same as Disco's??

    Regards
    Steve

    yes
all RangeRover, Defender and Disco have had 3.5 diffs since the last of the Series Land rover.
You can change them when you put bigger tyres on 4.1 or 4.7

You sure Michael? I thought they all had 3.54 in the diffs and the reduction in diesels was through the LT230. ie Defender LT230 is 1.4:1 compared to standard 1.2:1 for Disco's. There are also some small differences in first gear between the various LT77's.

OK so the question still lies.............

    I'll change the question.

If my Disco has 3.54 ratio where can i get a set of 3.8 or 4.1 ect??? Do andy Rovers or Pommy cars have the same centers???

Dunno about the LR3 and L322 Rangie but all Defenders, Range Rovers, and Discos prior to the above use 3.54:1 diffs.

Lower ratio (higher numerical) are available from paces like Great Basin Rovers in the USA. Hardy Neale in Brisbane has a set of crownwheel/pinions for a P38A in the lower ratio if anyone is interested.

I think you can fit the crown wheel and pinion from earlier series LRs into Pre-P38A Rover diffs

What we need to do now is jump to the Transfer case Forum....

I just found out that the Discos and Rangies and Defenders all have 3.54.

I just need to change my Transfer case from a Disco one to a Defender one.

It changes the High ratios but not the Low ratios

So in the Bush i'll still be a tad faster than what i want.

I'll see how i go when i dump the bigger Veels on it.......
