			CD Stacker for original stereo

					Hi all,
I've got hold of a Sony 10 disc cd stacker which is original equipment on a holden VS which uses exactley the same radio as is standard in a 96 Disco. When I hooked it up the stacker gets power and the radio recognises that there is a stacker attached, but it won't actually play a cd. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen and/or how to overcome this. Do I have to reset the radio or something?
regards Steve

Hi slayer, I have the same problem, I have a geniune Landrover Eurovox radio with the Landrover Stacker, wich has the Sony 10 stack cassette in it. It too for some reason not play. It feeds the Cd then I get an error of 'no CD.' Are you having the same problem?
I see you are in Ferntree gully, I'm up the road from you. Maybe you could PM me and we could get together. Try your Stacker on my radio and vice versa to see it it is the stacker???

Fault finding is usually slow however gives reason to why something doesn't function if swapping stackers doesn't solve the problem
Take the metal casing cover off the stacker while still connected to the head unit... don't poke around just watch.
Push an alternatively loaded cassette into the stacker (ie one disc, empty, one disc, etc)
Watch it loads each cd tray onto the spindle correctly
Watch that the laser bobs up and down, as it bobs see if the laser is working which can be seen as a reflection of a red beam on the CD. If an empty tray loads do not look at the laser, watch from the side. The red light is clearly visible and laser should still bob.
Watch that the disc spins a few times
The mechanism usually works pretty fast so you might need to eject the cassette and reinsert to "reset" the stacker.
If it doesn't do one of the above then that's the problem. From there it gets more technical however most faults are mechanical.
Will probably find either the disc will not spin (requires new spindle motor) or the laser will not bob with a red light (needs new laser). Both not particularly expensive.

I swapped the sony stacker for a eurovox one and it worked as soon as I plugged it in. It works great and was only $20 more than the sony one. My advice would be to get a eurovox rather than the sony.

Thanks Hellspawn for you advice too. I fixed my problem with mine . I did what you said and took the cover off. Mine turned out to be a sticking spindle. Once I go it going by finger pushing it, it span and the music played. It is a re occurring sticking though so I will have to replace the spindle.
