    Finished my oil pump bolt.

Thanks to the motivation from this thread.

Turned out the original bolt was tight and had lock tight. Maybe original or maybe someone had already done it.

I was surprised how clean the sump was. No bronze coloured staining like petrol motors I have rebuilt.

The spacer marks are really evident on this sump also.
Thanks to the poster who pointed this out.
Maybe if I file them a bit the bloody thing won't leak as much.

I see threads here that we should trim the gasket.
So do some of the sumps have a hole there for the gasket? Is the gaskets for later model cars, or just part of the production process?

I don't know. It was posted by someone else , but it looks wrong particularly since all the bolts are sleeved so that they cannot be overcrushed.
It looks to me like the thickness spec for the spacer has just grown over time or someone misread the spec.
I don't know if it applies to only to aftermarket gaskets or includes OEM.

Have a look here for tests on fuel in the oil.

Looks like all the nice piccies I had in that thread of the blotter tests have disappeared

I'll see if I can find them and get a mod to reinsert.

Take a closer look at the top face of your sump.

I posted a pic of my new sump gasket in post number 38.

    No steel washer?
