    lt230 1.2 vs 1.4 speedo drives

Just was thinking about the speedo correction thingy again, upgraded from 29 to 33 inch tyres i have a 1.4 transfer case but it howls quite loudly. As i have a 4.6 i think the 1.2 ratio t/c (which i have also good condition)would be fine but the speedo it out. I have read about the speedo drive cog ( 20 21 and 22 tooth ) I believe the 1.2 runs a 21 tooth cog can i just change to a 20 tooth cog or do i need to alter the internal drive aswell ?

Just change the plastic gear. The LT230 internal gear is the same on all models AFAIK.
Out of interest, the LT95 had a different internal tooth count for Rangie and Stage1, but the LT230 gear can be fitted.

BTW - you don't need a different drive gear just because you are changing the transfer ratio, since the gear is driven from the output shaft therefore related to just diff ratio and tyre size.
ie - if your speedo is accurate now, just take the drive gear from your current transfer and fit it to the 1.2 case when you change over.

If its not accurate now, pull the drive gear out of the housing, and check the colour of the gear (different colours are different tooth count) or count the teeth (should be a 5min job).
You also need to know the number of teeth on the steel gear on the output shaft - either count them or research online (IIRC its 8 teeth).
With those bits of info, and knowing how much your speedo needs to be corrected you can calculate the correct plastic gear to fit.
