thats what happens when you change oil regularly and use good oils
Dads Tdi had a slight oil leak around the sump so we pulled it off to fit a gasket from MR automotive instead of the factory RTV glue. Anyway we were very suprised to see how clean it was inside, I mean it was spotless no sludge nothing the sump just wiped clean didn't even use degreaser just wiped it out with a rag.

Good to hear. Goes to show if you look after them they go for forever. Dad is getting pretty close to 400,000 on his. Changes oil every 5000 and filter every 10000. Curious to see how many kays he will get before he starts losing compression or starts burning oil. So far still runs as new. Does a lot of hard work pulling heavy tandem trailer.
Gaz
Good info Gaz69,, I'm usually pretty hard on the diesel's lack of longevity.
Its great to actually hear of one running good numbers.
look forward to the 500,000 report :!:

Dad's car is a baby at 170k compared to 400k. No special oils or cleaners used in it just off the self stuff like Shell Rimula X, Valvoline etc. He has started running Penrite in it lately. I guess it shows that most modern oil is good oil.
