Hi, this is corrosion/ oxidisation.
The alloy equivalent of rust.
There are ways to treat it but IMO unless it's a rare, expensive unobtanium part, it's easier to scrap.
Hello All,
Has any one seen this white growth inside a carburettor before? Does anyone know what it is? It seems to be some type of white crystal.
I removed the carburettor to salvage the four nuts that hold it onto the engine. The carburettor is from an engine that was sitting uncovered in the former owner's paddock out in the elements for a long time. It has also sat out in the open with just a cover over the top of the engine in my paddock for about a year.
I have sprayed lanolin over the seized parts and will have a go at restoring the carburettor. I have other carburettors that are in a lot better condition, so it is not critical to get this one serviceable again. It will be practice working on the Zenith Stromberg CD 175.
Would carburettor cleaner kill whatever chemical reaction has been going on inside the unit?
Kind Regards
Lionel

When I saw the heading "furry carburettor" I thought "Hello, that's a new name to replace the old style furry magnet". On reading the thread I found the originator was indeed referring to a carburettor.
