    What grade oil for swivlels?

I can find specs for Gear box, tranfercase, diffs and engine, but can't find what grade of oil for the Swivels on my '96 Disco.
I don't want to change to gease, I prefer to stick with oil.
    any specs?.

I use Penrite 90/140 just a bit thicker when hot to hopefully slow down any leaks.

    Now I'm getting confused.
I know Shaun P is a penrite fan
I have been using Penrite too even though it is getting a touch expensive now.

Currently I've been using Penrite manual gear oil75 in my R380.
Castrol EXP 80w/90 in the Diffs.
Castrol VMX 80 75/80 API GL4 in the transfer case.
The VMX is supposed to allow easier shifts. I do think the transfer case is noiser at cruising speed with this oil.
Castrol recommends this oil for the swivel pins also.

I check out Penrite's site and they specify.
    Hypoid 80/90 for the
Swivels, the diffs and the transfer case.

The penrite idea is good to me as it means having to buy less different oils to do the service jobs.
What do you guys uses and the benefits.
Ps. I have no leaks from the swivels

    swivel joint lubrication

I dont know exactly when the change was made, but my aug. 97 build date tdi disco has grease, not oil in the front swivels. Identified by no level plug and the ball being black oxide colour.
Also gearbox (manual) very specific in using Dexron ATF (t55 torx driver to gain access) I understand gearbox failures have occurred by using incorrect lubricant.

Sheff, Specs changed I believe NOT to use ATF any more and now to use Light Manual Transmission Oil. As ATF was wearing gears.
As for that pain in the butt Torx 55, I removed mine and replaced it with a plumbing stop plug and now can use a spanner on it, much easier to remove, less fiddlling!.

Gearboxes fail for all sorts of reasons but more than likely from neglect than incorrect lubricant.

Other reasons include flat shifting and dumping the clutch.... ops: ...or so I'm told......
