Well i got excited on the weekend and Ordered 24 meters of 20mm square tube and some angle and some flat.

After looking into the back of the disco over a few coffee's and a few beers and some BBQ lunch and dinner i thought..... Mmm paying $2000 for a set of Draws is not a bad option....

But i want to build these so i am...

OK here is what i sussed out. the Rear area i wanted to carry alot of Crap like recovery, tools camping crap.... Dog...

I also thought about carrying Jerry Cans. So i grabbed my Jerry and worked out it would fit in the sides where the rear "Dicky" Seats fit. So i pulled out the rear Trim and started Hacking and welding and grinding and cutting and cursing and drinking......
After 12 hours i had made the LH rear Jerry mount with tie down points
I did not just make a Box, but made it at window hight with provission to add a hinged lid when the jerrys were not in there. I used soem of the orig trim to match up against it so it will look professional and not a slapped together shoe box.

I stole lots of ideas from others which is fantastic and i will post pix soon on my site. So next is the Drivers Side. This one is identical but the Filler pipe has a buldge in the body so i have to make it 1 inch wider. Still they should look great.

Then the Center Draw/Slides part will take shape.
I have not yet decided on Draws, Plastic tubs or ??? So i'll make a frame and put a top on it then make it for Draws but use Tubs for the time being. Then when i have some $$$ i'll get draws made up.

I'm goint to make the center part the full width of the Wheel arch to Wheel Arch, But have 1/2 as full hight to windows and half as half hight with the option for a Fridge Slide.

Then there will be a section for where the rear seat goes and that will be a lift up lid section. it might end up being storage for water. I'm not sure yet.

Then there is the storage behind the Seat. This will be simple made of 3mm ply as a simple box with a Lid. it will be bolted down and have 1 power socket for the mini fridge (9 cans)

As i have made mine a 2 seater it will be storage storage Storage.....

If someone wants dimensions of what i'm doing i'll do a rough plan of it all and put it on the site as well.

It will take a few weeks as i'm back at work and i can only work from 7pm to 9pm at night on it. Neighbors crack it if i grind at 11pm....

Regards
Steve

I've just finished making a storage system for the back of my Disco. I've used a couple of sheets of 5 ply and a lot of screws. I prefer to use plastic tubs rather than drawers because of a) weight savings and easier to pack things as the tubs can be carried around.

I'll try and post some pics later.....

Being Sneeky... Part 1

Last night on the way home i was on the Train and as it went thru the industrial estates i was looking at piles of junk when i spotted a heap of timber and crap..... BINGO....

So i drove back last night and loaded up the Disco with Timber...
I found the following...

1 2400x1200 7mm Ply sheet
20 1000x1000 12mm MDF and ply panels..... YIPPPY

a bit of Scrap steel and other Crap.

Now the best part is next.
One of the local Bunnings has a HUGE carpark and at the back of the Delivery area they have pallets after pallets of water damaged timber. yep hardwood, pine ect. It is near the Skips in the carpark.

My theory is this. If it is a Public carpark and its not fenced off then it must be rubbish or scrap??? So i should not get into trouble for taking some???

I NEED A UTE for this lot....... Truck would be better and Forklift...

Anyhow my project is getting cheaper. All i need is a sheet or 2 of Checkerplate for the Sump and Tank guards......

If you ask them they'll probably tell you to help yourself - it'll save them paying to dump it.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
