    V8 & Black Smoke

    Help!!!!!!

    I have a 95 Disco V8 Auto dual fuel

Fuel consumption on petrol has suddenly gone from bloody awful to unbeliveable. It is blowing black smoke & surging on a steady cruising throttle, it feels (and smells) as though it is being driven with the choke on.

As it doesnt actually have a choke (efi) Im thinking that for some reason it is being seriously over fuelled

I should add that it runs normally on LPG

Anyone have any ideas where I should start looking for the cause as 45l/100km is mighty expensive 8O

    Thanks Dragonwagon

Check your Temp sensors. If faulty they could be signaling the ECU that the engine is cold and enriching the mixture.
    Also Check the MAF.

    Thanks Rovernaut

Have you any idea what readings I should get hot/cold?

Temp sensor I understand but what is & how do I test a MAF?

    Hi Rovernaut
What most people dont realise is that with an EFI vehicle on LPG is that the petrol injectors are runing all the time, because there is no way of convincing the computer to turn them off because they arent needed,so they are operating open/shut squirting fuel as they are designed to,but they are running dry.If you normally only use LPG and petrol when you "run out" in an EFI,the injectors can seize due to lack of lubricant.Yours could probably stuck open or be sticky so they are overfueling. If you have a mate with a similar vehicle swap the injectors over.If the problem swaps vehicles there is your problem, otherwise its a trip to a specialist.

How often do you run a tank of petrol through the engine? You should run a tank through at least every 4th LPG tank to prevent the problem listed above. If you very rarely run petrol this is most likely youre problem. Matt
