    tyre rotation?

    happy new year all.
so what is the correct way to "rotate" tyres, Radial. and don't say "around". i have a feeling its rear left to front right and vice versa. does it make a difference if they are cross-ply? is there a typical amount of km's that they should be done. and why do they give the load rating at 75psi, who runs them this high?
    cheers, serg

    Hi Serg
I have always gone front to back on the same side, this is what they say in most owners "book of words" in the glovebox, there is a different recommendation for doing all 5 at once, put havent got a "book of words" here to check up.
The 75psi is for when you are carrying the vehicles maximum load, pumped up that hard unladen makes for a rough ride and possible tyre blow outs due to heat buildup further increasing the pressure, not to mention impared handling.

" I recall Old Jack Absolon's tip - Pump the spare tyre up to max and you have a ready reserve of air to inflate other tyres to an extra few pounds when flat. - All you needed was a hose to conect the 2 tryre valves."

    Best way I do it,
    Rear to front same side.
front to rear swap side left to right. right to left as you put them on the rear.
if you have a tralier or two spares even better, these to rear, then rear to front, then front to tralier or spare still swaping side. 40 000 km on michilen and still over half tread.

I was always told to rotate to the diagonally opposite side. But as long as you go front to back and vice versa i dont think it really matters. Matt

dont bother to rotate them at all.

    all 4 wear even.

The Michies on my Disco suffer from cupping? were the front of a each lug wears more than the back, and get noisy. I have found that by swapping them diagonally ( so they spin the other way ) they wear flat again and go quiet. Have done over 50,000k and used maybe 50% tread

You need to be careful with some of the new directional tyres, they will only go on one side, for a swap to the other side of the vehicle the tyre would have to be taken off the rim and refitted so it still turns the correct direction.
