disco air con question

Just a quick question on how the discovery S1 V8 air-con system works.

When I'm driving around with the air-con running it sucks a bit of power out of the disco, it seems to be the two fans, the electric and engine one are causing the power drain !! would disconnecting the fan on the engine and just running electric fans, maybe uprated electric ones fix the problem !!!

    Matt.

    Good question Matt.

Mine is the same and I can't hear the roar of the V8 over the roar of the fan.

All we need now is a good answer

I doubt it is the fan causing the prob as it would be spinning most of the time, It is the clutch on the A/C compressor as it kiks in and out.

Replacing the fan with thermo's will help the power drain but may have an adverse affect on the cooling system.

At least you guys have the V8, that power drop about halves the tdi's output. :?

The a/c compressor has quite a drain on things, you should switch it on after the engine has been idling, you can hear and feel the change.

The electric fans kick in to help in cooling the a/c element and the higher ambient temperature combined with the warmer air flowing out of the a/c element and the larger throttle openings we use to maintain a given speed all add up to the clutch fan operating to try and keep the engine happy.
