Tip for cleaning your cooling system

Howdy All, Got a good tip to pass on.
I've been suffering an overheating problem on the Olddog lately. As an ex farm ute i'd say it's seen it's fair share of muddy dam water which has in turn caked up the inards with mud and scale etc. I searched around for a cooling system cleaner that was up to the task but no luck. I mentioned my tale of woe to an old school mechanic mate and he reccomended filling her up with Coke!! 8O . I was desperate so i gave it a try and sure enough it cleaned her out really well, no more overheating To think, some people drink that stuff 8O
By the way, no i didn't put rum in there as well, this isn't a B&S ute

Interesting.....

Some Patrol officers in the US States carry a couple of gallons of coke - as its the best thing for removing blood off the road after car accidents!!!

in the old Series LR with the big brass radiators we used to put soap crystals in.

Battery acid cleans them up well too, just don't leave it in too long. Kinda eats things you don't want it to if it is.

That doenst supprise me, coke and battery acid have the same pH, well not quite but coke is very acidic, around pH 4. Try putting a piece of steak in a dish full of coke, once you see what it does, you wont want to drink it anymore. Matt

OldDog - did you clean the radiator in-place (ie, used your water-pump to push the stuff through the whole system) or did you remove the radiator and just swish the coke around in her for a while?

Cheers
