Did you check the actual engine number ??
Well, an update as promised. Thanks to all and Garycol in particular for the very helpful photos. Based on the absence of the cross bolts I have concluded that my latest acquisition is not a 4.6 as sold to me, but I believe just a bog standard and probably the original 3.5 EFI Basically looks like I was lied too, pure and simple. therefore no reason to believe anything else the PO told me about it (eg no issues) I paid $1500 for it, its pretty clean inside, roof lining etc all good, so I shall just work through any issues I guess. Disappointing, but I just tell myself that I rescued a RRC from an undeserving![]()
Did you check the actual engine number ??
At least you won't end up with slipped liners the 3.5 is no power house but pretty reliable old jiggers
The old 3.5 I used to drive for work (towing a sweeper) had been re-cammed for low-down torque. Was fantastic zero to 60, dying after 80+. Gutless by 110km/h
But, take the load off and she'd fly! - a great hoon-wagon.
Cam wear is pretty ordinary on these engines, and a great excuse to replace it with a suitable one if you want.
Never mind the Gold Standard for testing the BW transfer case... get enthusiastic on a tight round-a-bout and listen for any tyre-chirp or roughness/noise. Do the same in wet weather and see if the car takes the 'Scenic Route'
I'm told that these transfer-cases are great in beach sand.
If I can hijack my own threadI have another query. I have concluded through highly technical analysis (random implanted screw and heaps of some kind of bog, liquid weld stuff etc detected) that I need a new radiator. There are heaps listed for the RRC and disco 1 which seem compatible. However, mine appears to have what I believe to be oil cooler lines coming from the bottom (2 small lines close together) I am confused as to what I should be searching for to come up with the right product. A reminder then that I have a 1989 3.5 V8 auto (I think, given the misinformation I have been fed by the PO it could be a model T ford!) Any ideas folks?

I'm not familure with that vintage rr trans is it 3 or 4 speed if its four speed its most likely a zf if that's the case they run full line pressure to the cooler in that case its proper hydraulic hose and fittings and a decent cooler
