Slug, the main problem is the piston crown has softened and spread, causing the piston to rub the bore. This is typical failure for a Di engine running way over-fuelled. I'm still surprised oil ingestion would do that.

The combustion chamber in the middle shows just how much it has softened and changed shape.

IF it was the oil, it wasnt glug, glug, glug but would have been thinner and misty. Remember it had been frothed up through the breather, then through the intake and through the hot turbo....and diluting with the diesel already coming from the injector/s

thats how I see it anyway???????

your on the money right up to the diesel dilution thing in the cobustion chamber..

I could still buy that if you had held it planted while it was starting to overrun but once the engine RPMs exceeded the set speed RPM (how fast your pedal input was telling the engine to run) or the max governed speed it would have cut injection and just been running on engine oil.

Pardon me mentioning the obvious, but don't forget to add something to the engine to stop this from happening again.

More a case of not adding too much to stop it happening again

I lost track during this epic. Was it really from too much engine oil? But I think it can also happen from a cracked block etc., etc.

Im sure the is more than one way to get what appears to be the same result. But I garantee that each different problem would lead to a different result, no matter how close they seem. Only a mechanical engineer that specialises in engine distruction could close the book on this one.

With that said, there were known variables leading up to and immediately before the distruction.

I would still be interested to here others thoughts......

    It is alive!!!

picked it up yesterday afternoon. believing in getting back on the horse, I immediately drove to "death by oil" Rd and did the run I was intending to do when it blew. Btw Advancetown lake is at 92%, has 2m or so of vertical height before it starts to spill. I have put 100km on it so far and everything seems ok. Bit over sensitive to it atm but that is to be expected.

I will update if there is a change, or at the 800km oil change.

Just dropped it off for its 800km oil change and valve clearance adjustment. It was run in on 30w mineral run in oil. I supplied a fleetguard glass media oil filter for the intial run in. This filter filtrates down to about 6 micron. Just my idea to maybe pick up a few more of the little bits floating aroung after a rebuild. Its now getting a standard fleetgaurd filter and Castrol RX Super.

I had a coolant temp spike on moday afternoon. Driving home from Fingal to Southport. Coming up a incline on the main MWY, doing 100km/h in 5th and 400c POST turbo for a systained 30-40 secs the temp rose to 92c. After this rise, I just sat on 100km and the road is mostly level with a few slight incline/decline to the Bermuda st exit. Normally it would drop back to 90c after the incline pretty quickly, this time it didnt, instead it slowly climbed to 98c as I was taking the Bermuda St exit....so watching very closely and now doing 80k in 4th it started to come down and got back to 90c. It hasnt done it since

The engine has felt the slightest bit down on power...hard to tell from a 2 month spell of not driving it with the trailer

I have to talk to the Injection pump specialst and see if he changed any of the pump settings....

    cheers,
    Serg

if its had a full rebuild I'd want to run it on a thinner oil that the RX super....

10/30 or 0/40ish while its still new.
