    No I personally havent. I drove it to the mechanics monday morning and its been with him since. He only got into it tuesday arvo. Wed I ducked over when I could and snapped those pics. Machinest came first thing this morning....

    The machinest I am referring to is the guy that did all the machine work on the block when it was last rebuilt.

    Block was bored and honed for +10thou pistons. Decked. Pistons checked for same TDC height, machined to suit. Pistons and conrods balanced as needed. Deck height checked and HG used to suit (there are 3 different thickness HG.)

    Head was sent to a head specialist and was checked for hardness, fully stripped, Decked and rebuilt with new consumables etc

    Now of coarse I can not garranty all this. I could have some little info wrong, and I didnt personally do the work. I did how ever do the running around and ordered all the HS2.8tgv parts. I also had the turbo stripped, checked and rebuilt by Mike Vine.

    I queeried the head and the mechanic thinks it looks good. I asked what he would have done to it now and he said probably just a hardness test.

    Under the circumstances, I figure that given the MLS type HG, and since it is already off, it should be stripped fully checked and decked again....

    On another note I literally almost vomitted when I realised how much $$$ has been spent on the Black hole....and now Im paying $400/week for a POS hilux so I can work. Lets hope I dont crash it with a $3000 excess

    +$2000 for Grubbs conversion
    +1000 for Isuzu gearbox
    +2000 easy for other bits and peices

    Yes still less than I have bent over and shoveld into my heap, but I dont have this sort of money.....

    If I can find a 6 speed then you can have my msa box with adapters etc for a grand. Time frame would be mid winter at the earliest.

    If you go down that path I've got a 12V 4BD1 starter you can have for cheap.

    What's your current gearbox? An R380 will live for a reasonable amount of time behind a 4BD1T. Especially if it hasn't been turned up.

    That would greatly reduce the time and cost for now and give me more time to get this 6 speed plan in action.

    Or you could just buy a 4wd NKR with the 4.3 litre 4HF1 Isuzu already in it. Some local builders here have a 2wd one. Their only complaint is it's low geared and sings on the open road. At my suggestion their mechanic is hunting down a higher ratio (lower number) diff for it.
    About km/l for a double cab NKR with low box on the back, full of builders tools and towing a tandem axle trailer.

    R380 with 330k and 4th is getting sticky to go into. Being that it has towed for 250k of that 330k, there is no way in hell id put a 4Bd1 or T infront of it. Hell, how many recent R380 rebuild threads have there been and these all below 200k and behind the little rinky matchbox engines. That would be jumping out of the frypan into the fire.

    If I had the money I would just go buy a new N series Isuzu truck (short) in 2wd, probably the 5.4 over the 3.0.... Then I could load it and tow....again If I had that sort of money I could do the whole Isuzu conversion on my 110. Im pretty much stuck with having to get it fixed now. Its costing me either way and renting a ute is only compounding that.

    Dont stress about getting yours done to help me. Ill still be interested in it and will have to sloooooowly peice together the parts anyway. Engine being a small one of those.

    Hi Serg

    I would also be looking at replacing your work vehicle with a properly constructed truck, as it is now a case of "never send a boy to do a man's job".

    Towing a loaded trailer constantly will take it's toll on any vehicle when it is up to and beyond it's recommended loaded capacity.

    With the distortion of the 2.8 block, I can understand how that fault could occur, but I certainly wouldn't have seen it coming either. ( I hope by me saying that does make you feel a bit better )
