    After market central door locking

    Hi all,

I'm looking for some advise/recommendation on an after market central locking kit with starter immobiliser.
I fitted a kit several years ago and all was fine until recently and now it's playing up. I got the kit from Repco for around $60 so I'm happy I got this long out of it. As it was so cheap I won't bother trying to fix it I'll just pull it out and replace with a good quality kit.
Does anyone have a recommandation for a good quality kit? It's for a 99MY Defender.

    Cheers

    Nino.

    Michael,

It's a 99 Td5. Although I'm fairly sure my doors are the same as yours. Mine wasn't available with central locking as an option. I think that was 2002 on. The kit was fairly easy to fit and took about 4 hours all up and I had to cut and modifiy the panel that bolts to the inside of the door frame. Other than that not to bad. My only advise is get the best you can afford. Mines lasted a few years but I was never happy with the remotes. You could inadvertently push the buttons in your pocket. I will choose the key remote better next time..

    Cheers

    Nino

Maybe this is a bit far from you but it works great on a friend's Defender (second kit) http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fl...al+locking+kit
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Try Jaycar. 4 Door Remote Controlled Central Locking Kit with Kill Switch - Jaycar Electronics

That's only for 4 doors. I assume you want to unlock the rear door, too.

Maybe add another actuator with this: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LR8813

Robert, buy the 4-door kit and you can add the rear door later if you want - and you will probably want to.

    Thanks Ron.
What kit would you recommend ?
I had no idea there was such things.
Never thought of it before and was happy with Me Disco but this blasted P38 Bitch is spoiling me. It's decided for for me that I am in fact an old fart.
I already knew that feet were for pushing pedals but now i have to accept that fingers are for pushing buttons not for winding stuff up.

Have followed this thread with some interest as I've been thinking of this for some time too, if only to save the locks and keys themselves from getting totally worn out. There's been a lot of wear over 430K km after all. But, given Discos already have the actuators, as long as they work, this other kit from Jaycar will do nicely. It was linked to the one shown by p38arover, so thanks for that.
