Replacing welch plugs on a 300Tdi

Need to do this on the Defender on the weekend. Anyone know of a step by step account, or traps for new players?

Make sure the block hole surface is very clean, use a light smear of Stag paste on plug or hole, good luck, Regards Frank.

    what he said!

punch a hole in the old ones with a screw driver and lever them out

clean the hole as best you can

find a socket that loosely fits into the plug and use that when punching them in

smear stag on plug and hole

tap away keeping them as straight as possible till you have the plug seated with the lip just barely inside the machined edge

    all over red rover

    start on next one

    enjoy!

just be careful not to score the mating surface of the block as you remove the old welsh plug with the screwdriver.

    Which ones are leaking?
