    Defender Standard Shocks

I know its a piece of string question, but how long should my Defender standard shocks and springs last based on others experiences. Its done I cape trip and has 20000 ks on it.

how long is a piece of string?
    twice half its length!!

as for the shocks....while working on the things people would come in for leaking shocks...we would say to service manager to get some bilsteins(which were cheaper and better than standard OE shocks) and the answer was we only fit genuine parts as warranty wont cover it ...fair enough...good point taken.

run up to spares and get a brand new pair...come back to the workshop open up the box ....WIPE THE OIL OFF the NEW shocks , bleed them and fit them.

now they are genuine factory fitted oil leaks!!

Very timely.....I was looking at Kimba's drooping front-end this morning and noticed one of my front shocks had started to leak. It has done 61,000km.

The rate of wear will depend on loading and type of driving/road conditions.

To put into perspective. I have a ARB bar and winch. It also has a steel bash-plate which adds additional weight. The front-end is noticeable 'down in the nose' riding on the standard coils.

Hang onto the OME, but at first sign of them leaking move over to some Bilsteins.

    Defender Standard shocks

Ive got 2 years left on the Warranty, but why bother replacing with OME if they are crap.

Depending on the driving you are doing, 2 years is a long time, so it may be worthwhile. You might not want the hassle of LR chucking a wobbly on a warranty job if you have non-OME shocks?

My warranty runs out next month. I did consider getting them to replace them and then whip them and out and sell them, but who wants to buy OE shocks???

At some point I want to move to Bilstein shocks, so I might just bite the bullet :?

    Defender Standard Shocks

Got a Cape trip next month(though maybe not with this rain) and a Plenty/Donohue run in June. Be a bastard if they drop their guts on either, probably more for LR than me.

I put 130 springs in the front of my Defender, solved the droop problem.
