I built a little module for my TD5 D2 that sounded its alarm if there was no earth path to the oil pressure switch at engine start-up or there was an earth path (no pressure) after pressure had been achieved for the ignition cycle. It also stiffled the engine if oil pressure was lost in case the oil pump bolt had loosened.

I have a lot of sympathy with this story. I recently began work on a 1974 classic Range Rover which had been tampered with. Somebody had unfortunately put paint in the petrol tank which I eventually cleaned out. I rebuilt the carburettor cleaned the fuel system and changed the oil, water and did a few general checks. I was able to run the engine for a few hours and then suddenly everything seized up. I probably should have pulled the whole thing apart. But, in my enthusiasm I think I have stuffed up the whole engine. Fortunately it was running at low speed. Nevertheless, one is contemplating the stress of rebuilding the engine or purchasing an alternative. I would be happy to hear any views or words of experience regarding alternatives. One of the few things that was working before everything went wrong was the oil pressure gauge which showed plenty of pressure. However, checking the oil after things had gone wrong, and remembering that I had recently put new oil into the engine, the oil is now the same colour as the paint that was in the petrol tank.
