New to owning a Landrover. Just bought a Disco II 4Ltr and after having mechanic flush cooling system he pressure tested and informs me head gaskets leaking externally. No sign of contamination in oil so am gathering parts to replace gaskets and get heads checked/skimmed. Apparently this is a common thing with Landy's??
Reading the repair manual it says to apply stc50550 sealant when fitting new intake manifold gasket to cylinder head and notches in cylinder block. Replacement gasket is a composite one.
Can anyone tell me if this sealant is needed with composite gaskets? And if so where does it need applying on cylinder head as repair manual is lacking details/pics on this part of procedure. ( I would have thought that a gasket should seal without having to add sealants. That is after all its purpose.)
