Have a look at the PPC (Permanent Painted Coatings) website as well.
They have a product or kit that apparently works well.
When you do the repair a commentary and photo's would be very usefull.

Thanks Phil, this was the product I was looking for "POR-15" but did not realise it was available in Australia.

I will take photographs and post it once I have completed the project

    Thanks

I used Redcote on my tank about 1 year ago. It's acetone based like nail polish. I was able to pick it up so was in liquid form. It required two applications. No leaks so far.

There is a video on how to do this with a KBS kit. I have spoken directly with the owner of KBS who was great to talk to and gave me heaps of good info on using their products.

    Smile Fuel tank leaking defender

My fuel tank had corrosion under the guard, 10 years ago.

I removed the tank and sender unit and washed the tank out.

Drilled out the spot welds and removed the guard .

Wire brushed the tank and soldered up the small pits with plumbers solder.

Filled the tank with water for leak test

Painted with cold galvanising, then black underbody sealer.

Cut a lot of slots in the guard to allow cleaning and drainage between the guard and the tank.

pop riveted the guard back on and refitted the tank.

Never had another problem despite a lot of deep water and mud work and some beach trips. a bit labor intensive and low tech, but cheap and guaranteed result .

Have used the KBS kit, someone on here said KBS is the parent company of POR 15. I have had no problem with the product so far, but next time I use it, I will make sure I have at least 3 tanks to do as you put all this stuff in swirl it around and drain it all out again. This leaves the desired thin coating and you throw the rest away!!

I sealed three motorcycle tanks but not as yet added fuel tho it seemed to me to be a good tough product.
I found that by leaving the tanks in the hot sun the sealant sloshed around much better as it's quite thickish when cool.
The kit I used had three components, a cleaner and a rust eater and the sealant. All good products but I was very impressed with the rust eater as it worked extremely well and was harmless to paint or even your skin.
