Handbrake engaged would give that result
Hi everyone
Ive just bought a 130 defender with front and rear air lockers. Having the left hand rear wheel off the ground I could not spin it. As far as im aware the diff wasnt locked.
My question is, is the LH side in the rear on a Salisbury diff permanently driven and the locker engages the RH side when its switched on? Both front wheels were on the ground as was the RH rear.
Many thanks.
Michael.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
If you have only one wheel lifted then it will not turn without a great deal of effort even out of gear with the hand break off.
ARB air lockers act as "open" differentials until they are locked at which time they "lock" the motion of both wheels.
Handbrake needs to be off, (wheels chocked so the car doesn't move obviosly) and gearbox or transfer case need to be in neutral.

just to qualify that.......
In order to turn the wheel by hand..........(ie checking if a diff lock is unlocking in the driveway)
handbrake off, transfercase and gearbox in neutral. an the center diff lock in the transfer case unlocked
