Missing Boge Leveller
G'day Again All,
I spent the day crawling over and under my Rangie today checking for loose bolts etc before its first offroad trip in a couple of weeks and noticed the Boge self leveller isn't fitted, according to the owners' manual and the workshop manual it should be there! Is this important? Should I try and find a s/hand unit? Thanks Guys! Cheers Scott. :?

Boge leveller
It depends what's been done to the suspension. Does it have heavier/longer springs? Does it have uprated shocks (eg Koni, Bilstein)?
A very knowledgable LR man in Melbourne advised me to remove the leveller after a suspension upgrade prior to Cape York trip several years ago. No difference to the ride quality, no suspension bottoming and less moving parts to #$%$ up.
SUck it and see.

Thanks Pierre, the springs are original, 21 years old and counting! Dampers are Munroe Gas, don't look that old. Rides OK, just very softly sprung.

More for thought..
I take it from the name that the car has 5l transplant. It's a bit heavier than an alloy V8, so consider a spring upgrade in the near future. Talk to Andrew Richmond at Les Richmond Auto in Thomastown, Victoria. He's the spring guru.

Boge leveller
As of last Fri, there was a Classic RR at Rushs Pick and Payless Blacktown. It still had it's self-leveller if you really want one: Have a quick look at the Manual, it just unscrews from the the ball joints. Besides, you don't really need it unless you fill the back with gear- all it does is imitate air-adjustable shocks. They won't charge an arm and a leg, ask what they want for it before wandering in.
I should have taken a picture: That Rangie had a hit so big square on the front that it squashed the chassis back about 30cm

If you till run std springs then you wil require the Bogue unit as this carries some of the load at the rear.
But any spring lift over 40mm makes the unit usless. and it should be removed.

Look, the Nivomat does more than just level. it is a spring, a leveller and a bumpstop combined.
See this article which is not a full explanation.
Even in a lifted vehicle, if you hit a dip or become airborne the Nivomat will provide extra springing, and bumpstop on landing.
Mine is lifted 2 inches but I have left the Nivomat. On my 92 Rangie I have 180LB rear springs. if I did not have the Nivomat I would have to go to maybe 240 , with bad efefcts on ride.

Thanks everyone, I'd like to do the springs in the not too distant future, so I guess based on that I'd be better off leaving it out of the vehicle.
