    v8 to diesel conversion

hi all just a quick question can you convert a v8 auto disco1 to diesel using a 300tdi and auto?
is the auto in the v8 the same as the diesel auto?
the reason is that I have a chance of buying a really cheap v8 disco1 but want to convert it to diesel.
    thanks for any info cheers

By the time you do the conversion the "really cheap" V8 will be a really expensive diesel.

The auto is quite different and needs to be changed.
A late model D1 in stock tdi auto form is only worth about 3-4k. Even if the v8 was free you would struggle to do a conversion for that price.

It's all just nuts and bolts except the engine mounts on the chassis and they are completely different. If you have a complete donor D1 diesel and a good D1 V8 you can either swap the entire chassis and running gear, or cut the engine mount brackets off the diesel and weld them to the V8 chassis. Buying the bits separately (engine, mounts, trans, radiator, inter cooler, exhaust, throttle cable, fuel pipes and pickup, wiring, power steering pump etc) will be more expensive than just buying a diesel to wreck.

A few years ago I converted a series 2 6cyl petrol to a 4 cyl diesel with a turbo. After I had finished someone said to me, "Why didn't you just convert it to run on LPG?" And I thought "yes that would have been quicker, easier and cheaper." And I would not get Diesel all over my hand everytime I filled it up.

You know that's optional right? Just like getting food right down your front when you eat.
