    Deep engine vibration

I have noticed this sporadically before but I went for a run down to the Gold Coast today and established a pattern.

Between about 2250 and 2500 rpm there is a deep engine vibration, particularly when backing off the accelerator. This equates to about 110km/h - 120km/h on level ground.

As I said, it is not too bad when accelerating but if you get to 2500 rpm and then back off, its more of a shudder than a vibration.

It is from the engine (or transmission), it is not wheel balance related, I know what that feels like.

Any ideas on what might be the cause ?

almost identical to a descrption of my problem with my disco except mine is between 1900 and 2100 rpm.

in mine it is bad enough to make the rear vision mirror vibrate.

check the bearing on the front drive flange of the transfercase
or a drive shaft uni joint or the slide on a drive shaft.

cracked engine / gearbox mount (rubber)???
worn uni joint? if it is, it'll get exponentially worse.
    cracked fan blade? [unlikely]

let us know when you figure it out.

    Hmmm.... Interesting one.

    This is what I'd check:

    Rear half shaft splines.
    Gearbox oil & filter.
    Steering damper.

    Mark.

    Loose flexplate/flywheel.

Diff pinion bearing or flange loose. Alternatively transfer outpu bearing loose.

Might be a driveshaft if it's bendt or lost a counterweight. Only way to be sure is take them to someone diagnostic and get them to spin each drive in a lathe for trueness.
