You should get both batteries under the passenger seat ... especially if it is an Optima. This is mine ...
From memory, the compartment under the drivers seat is not as deep as the battery box.
Hi,
I'm about to emark on the Dual Battery install Trek... has anyone got some Pics??
I have a yellow Top optima as the 2nd battery, but the main is a Big bugger Marine thing... So lack of Room.

(There probably is but the Defender isn't here at the moment for me to check).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I was thinking of fabricationg one for the Drivers side, but then i'd have to store my spares and crap elsewhere....
Hey i can hide my money in there....
It is a nice compartment to store valuables. In South-Africa a lot of Defender owners convert it into a lockable safe to carry passports, currency etc. when going up through Africa. Unfortunately, it houses the ECU in the Extreme's

Steve,
I just installed a second battery in my brothers new Defender. Both batteries fitted OK on passenger side and I was able to use the original "hold down" bracket over both of them, just had to make up a block of wood the for the second battery to bring it up to correct height.
I used a battery controller from ASAP Auto Electrics in Oban Road. They are almost identical to the Piranah controller but much cheaper.
Just mention my name & the Land Rover club and he should give you a good deal.
Mmmmmm
Smart idea.... a Mini Safe.....
Or a ESKI..... fil it with ice and Beer....
Now there is an idea.. and a can despenser at the front to get your ice cold cans....
Mate that has to be the idea of the Month....
Any Pix??Originally posted by walker

hope these pics work- this is the under drivers seat box I have just got made up to fit my spare battery it is a replica of the original with 160mm of depth added. It is made out of 2mm Gal and was made by a local fabricator at a cost of $210 (including materials). I just have to fit it when I get a chance. I went this way as for a County using an Izusu motor I need a very large starting battery, leaving little room to mount my second battery. With this box I can now get wet cell deep cycle batteries instead of the more expensive AGM sealed batteries which are at least $100 more a pop. Hope this helps. Cheers,
Pullsy
THese friging photos don't work so go to page 6 of the galleries and look under Pullsy's COunty for 3 pics of the new box
