    Gearbox to motor question

I have a question for for those in the know when it comes to motor/gearbox combos. Will a LT95 gearbox (off an early RRC V8) fit onto a Tdi300 (ex D1) ? If it will, is it an easy job or would it drive Me, my mechanic (soon to be son in law,so really he just has to suck it up..........LOL) my wallet and SWMBO nuts ??

    I have a question, WHY?
A ZF Auto would leave the LT95 for dead and the R380 has got 5 gears with O/D, Regards Frank.

A number of reasons really, but mainly because I have a couple of ideas for a for a long term project, using what I either have or have access too, series based vehicle. WHY ? because I want too ! and I have the following,
A good condition 109 military chassis,
A complete ex ADF 109 with a wheetbix chassis and a very, very dead 2.6 and a few dents, big dents,
A almost complete ex ADF 109 that was part of a batch that a Dealer re-built, with lots of stright body work, a complete hard top, lots of rust, no motor, gearbox etc,
    A working LT95 from a RRC,
A RRC (not the one the LT95 came out of) parts car,
    Access to a Tdi300 out of a D1,
A tame, trade qual, ticketed welder, a mechanic (see my first post)
A local Vehicle Engineer that is fair, reasonable and knows what a land rover is.

I have no idea if the motor/gearbox idea will work, which is why I asked the question in the first place. The whole idea may get dumped if the Series/RRC FRANKENTRUCK idea becomes tooooo complex, l don't know at this point but nothing ventured, nothing gained

Not without. Some very custom assembly work for the bell housing/flywheel adaptor and clutch, but yes it could be done.

I would personally reccomend going with the r380 for your intended purpose.

    Thanks Dave
I kind of thought that would be the case....................so I either pay my mate for his Tdi300 and then go looking for an R380 to buy........................or, hmmmmmmmm........... 4bd1..............

If you ring MR auto really quick you might find they havent dismantled my r380 or lt230 and you might be able to have them cheap.

If you go down that path you will still need a different bellhousing for the lt95.

Thanks for that, I knew that I would have to change the bellhousing to match the 4BD1. To be honest I have a bit of a soft spot for the Isuzu motor (having spent a bit of time over the last few years driving multi coloured 110s) LT95 combo and buying a motor and bellhousing is going to be healthier on the back pocket.............

There was a factory kit back in the day to bolt a 200Tdi into range rovers which may have included the lt95.

I thought that was for the v8s which only had the choice of the 5 speed or the auto?

be very happy to be wrong about that.
