Hi DougLD, I’ve not seen the D3 yet but when I fitted driving lights to the Rangie, I struck a similar problem.
In the end I just took the plastic bumper bar off and worked out all the fitting while it was off.
There are lots of bolts and clips to remove but everything fitted together very easily when it came time the put every thing back together again.
This had some advantages with the Rangie as there is a square steel tube bumper bar made of 1/4 inch thick steel, located directly behind the the plastic bumper.
The plastic bumper actually raps around the steel tube but there are some indents and channels in the steel tube and these locations allowed the driving light mounts to be fitted and all this was done before reassembling the plastic bumper back on the Rangie.
This has the added advantage in that the only way to get the driving lights off is to remove the bumper, so stealing the lights is a major job if someone tries.
The driving light mounts are just fitted in the plastic but are solid and secure enough so that there doesn’t seam to be any vibration.
Have a look under the front end and see if it might be easier to do it this way.
Cheers and have fun both fitting the lights and driving the D3.
