I note that the article says it's not an oil conditioner.
I'm always worried about whether these are snake oil. The test rig is the same as the one often seen selling oil conditioners.

I have just been handed information on Roil by a workmate whos father is the Australian distributor for this product now my question is, can it be used in the TD5 or for that matter the TDI and does anyone know of or used this product cause it looks and sounds pretty good and anything that can help improve the life of an engine should be good.

Speaking as a sucker who has bought both tin based fuel conditioner and a Hyclone on the basis of scientific tests, recommendation, and laboratory tests, I am now very sceptical of these products.
The problem with the scientific tests is that you do not know what those tests mean to Y engine.
The tests that were done seem to test the extreme pressure characteristics of the Roil . That is valid in a diff or some gearboxes, but what does it mean regarding an engine.
I was involved as a Trade Comissioner in 1985 with a Nulon test where they drove a Commodore 6 cylinder (with solid lifters) from Singapore to KL with no oil. They boiled on the causeway because a hose fell of,yet the thing got to KL about 200KM away, although she sounded pretty crook.
Yet all the oil companies say Teflon is no good.
Yeah i did notice that it is actually a metal conditioner and basicly coats the metal to a non slip surface, a fiction modifier so to speak.

Improving the life of an engine comes down to regular maintenence and use good quality oil full stop.Originally posted by Redback

The rest they try to sell you is smoke and mirrors. Slik50, motor up and the other one I've forgotten probably do something but make no real difference in the long run. You add up all the dribs and drabs you poke into that motor over it's life then have a look at what difference that makes to the rebuild cost and there is no cost difference. Still needs the same amount of reconditioning reagrdless and why be scared of a motor wearing out ?? Putting off the cost of rebuilding only allows a more spectacular failure in the mean time.
Just poke good oil like penrite HPR, BP Visco 2000 or Shell Helix and change it regularly.
The best gimic I remember is AgQuip last year there's this old guy in a HQ Stateswood demo'ing this gizmo you stick between the coil and the dizzy cap. $90 or something it cost. The coil he's got in there is probably the original so no wonder it has trouble making a spark, this pathetic thin orange flick across the plugs. Stick this miracle of modern electrics in the circuit and we have this crisp blue crack across the plugs. 8O
Came question time... couldn't help myself.... "ever thought of sticking a Bosch GT 40 in it mate for 50 bucks less ? " Have to hand it to him though...true salesman, successfully told me about everything about the product and avoided the question completely. Couldn't believe people fall for it... then I bought a series three rover believing it wouldn't cost much to keep. Yep !! sucker !!
that sounds like them thingys you screw onto your spark plugs
that cover the end, they have holes in them tat are supposed
to stop your plugs fouling when your engine is caput!
Have a look who the technical editor for the jag Mag is ( I'll give you a hint It's me and a mate of mine Ronny Moore) however this is not one of mine or Ron's articles.
So this would mean you don't endorse this product but the mag your does 8OHave a look who the technical editor for the jag Mag is ( I'll give you a hint It's me and a mate of mine Ronny Moore) however this is not one of mine or Ron's articles.[/b]

You'll find no one endoreses anything or accepts responsibility for anything in any magazine. Readers are recomended to make up thier own mind as to the suitability of products, services or procedures for their purpose. I'll only recomend stuff I've tried and found to work ok and have done so in the mag on products from time to time, I haven't tried this stuff. Jim Reed who runs a top fuel drag car team swears by it. Lotts of people swear by Morreys to and I haven't tried it either. I think your an oil additive person or not. I've never used any oil additives except for Casite Motor Honey to stop dungers smoking a bit so I can't recomend any.
