    keyless entry blackspot

Has anyone else encountered an electronic blackout spot where my 03 LR Disco TD5 keyless lock, unlock and engine immobiliser buttons won't work. Used the key to manually lock the door but when I returned, using the key to manually unlock the door just set off the car alarm and left the engine immobiliser engaged. Only way to stop the alarm was to get out and lock the door with the key manually. Called the RACQ who towed me about 400 metres down the road and, lo and behold, all the buttons worked again and the immobiliser disengaged. This must be a known problem. The RACQ dude said he had been told that all Range Rover drivers should be wary about parking closer than 80 metres from a pharmacy or risk the same problem as above. And, yes, there was a pharmacy close by to where my Disco stopped. I am totally bewildered. Does anyone have any answers or am I going nuts?

It is a known problem, in so much as RFI will make it difficult for the signal from the fob to get to the car.

Telstra Tower in Canberra is a known area, as mentioned above, due to the amount of RFI in the area.

For some reason, pharmacies, and I think it is Amcal, use a frequency on their sliding doors that is very close to that of car fobs.

You may find that if you try from a different angle, ie: other side of the car, or the back, or front, that the signal will get thru.

And it isn't just LR's that are affected.

According to everyones conception or level of paranoia for some of us here's an option to be more covered against fob or receiver failures, analise this Disco 2 Recommendation for D2 owners - Land Rover Zone and decide for yourselves

Not a d2, but there's a place in Bendigo near jaycar where the remote doesn't work.
I've asked all the business of they're transmitting 433mz, though none are.

My dad had the same issue outside a chemist shop at Bright Victoria, the RACV guy was right onto it towed him 100 meter up the road and off he went.
He probably didn't really need the script, now he is off Lipitor his leg pain has gone and so has his Land Rover pain.

My D2 has a habit of doing this, especially if it's been parked for longer than a day. Cycle unlock/lock with the key and it's fine. Dunno about phone towers, doesn't seem to make any difference where it is.
Another weird thing, which works with the Disco, the Ford and the (former) VW; hold the fob up under your chin. Dunno what this does, but it works. The car opens from further away, and often the Disco will unlock when previously it wouldn't.

father inlaw warned me not to park near the John Holland railway control communication box in his town as it stopped the Subaru from working.
