yeah phoenix great minds think alike, or it could just be a dumb arse coincidence
thinking about it , I like the idea of having the motor up higher,
better wading depth. (hope i get to do some ) and excellent front cross member clearance.
when i repower i will cut the rear x-member. but i may not have to if i fit a five speed as the transfer case will be closer to the rear member. This should give me better clearance.

have you tried puting a couple of washers in the gearbox mounts to raise the back of the box a touch?

Driveshaft touching crossmember

I would suggest that you try using standard Holden Eng Mounts or drop down to Landrover Diesel eng Mounts (the square ones)
that would lower the engine, and use the Landrover engine mounts on the G/box, that is if the rear look suspect

i think it will take more than a few washers. That photo was taken with the truck sitting at rest not full suspension droop.
rear mounts are 6 months old.
i think another contributing factor is the weight of the old girl. ~1400 kg
pretty much everything non essential has been removed ( or did they come like this ex - factory? ) the spring shackles are pointing almost straight up and down. to me this means she is sitting up too high due to wrong spring rates? and at rest she is sitting in the almost full down suspension travel region.
looks like i have a few little problems all contributing to one biggish one.

thats sounds a bit strange with the spring shackles...
but anything has got to be better than cutting and welding crossmembers... what about legalities with interfering with the chassis?
will it need to be engineered or is it not part of the chassis?
sorting out stuff like this only gives greater satisfaction in the end as you know its all done proper.
its all good....
