    Add Stacker or Replace Stereo???????

    Hi All,

With the SE7 disco it has a Tape head unit that can control a stacker, but should I add a stacker (what is compatable?) or just rip out the head unit and replace it with an aftermarket unit, I had a Sanyo 4cd changer in dash in previous 4x4s but it wasnt the best on skip, in fact it was shocking, the Sony single unit I had in my Rangie and Defender was great, but a single cd is a pain to constantly change.

What are my options, and any recommendations?

    Regards glen.

if you hate changing cd's then a stacker is the only
    way to go.
i say rip out the oem unit and install a pioneer set up!
ive used pioneer for years and have never had any problems
or skipping incidents!!!! i lie i had one in my EH wagon, but hitting a
train crossing at 80mph and bottoming out the suspension
will do it to any unit i spose?

Hi seqfisho, just a suggestion, you obviously have a computer so you can get a number of free programs that will allow you to convert your favourite music to MP3 and if you replace the tape with and MP3 player, it should not only be cheaper than putting in a stacker but it should be quicker to change over.
Add to that the fact that MP3 cd's will store and play about 6 or 7 times as much music as a standard cd.
    Cheers.

I agree with Drivesafe. Mp3 is the way to go. Ok it will take awhile to convert all your music, but one cd will last for hours and hours and the good ones dont skip.
Another option in a Mini Disc player. I have a walkman varity and love it. The new ones hold 1GB on a disc.
    Welcome to the 21st century!

    MP3

The mp3 player is the way to go now that they are cheap. Quite often you can pick an mp3/cd player head unit for the same price as a cd only. The new stackers are now also mp3 so you can drive around Oz without changing a disc. I got my Pioneer from Audicom and have not looked back. Why not go the whole hog and look at the VDO Dayton CD/MP3/DVD/Navigation system head unit. Bloody marvellous piece of gear, now only if I could afford one I could do away with my head unit, stacker, kids dvd player and the gps and have all in one unit.

It depends on the quality of the conversion, ie: what bitrate you use. Most give you the option of the quality you want, from below radio quality right up to above cd quality. But it also has an effect on how many thacks you can get on a cd.

I added an Alpine tape head unit and 6 disk stacker to my Defender

Stack has MP3 play back as well.

Works out to a long time between disk changes.

    And hasnt skipped once yet

My Disco had the factory head unit and I found a factory stacker at a good price, that only skipped on BIG bumps
