    D1, D2 and RRC interchangeability?

Not sure if this the right forum for this.... Is there a list on here somewhere about what parts are common across the Rangies and Discos? I'm talking mechanical. I'm not looking for a definitive list, but some guidelines. Anyone know of such a thing?

RRC, D1 and D2 all run 100 inch wheelbase and to the best of my knowledge, D1 and RRC are nearly identical underneath. I have not had much to do with D2, so cannot help you there.

Very little in common with the D2.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Rangies from 1991-94 are pretty much identical mechanically to the same year ranges of D1 except for the viscous transfer case, which is interchangeable if you have the other parts that go with it. About the only mechanical bits off a D2 you can use on a D1 are the diff centres, transfer case, hand brake, starter motor and the bare V8 motor. There are a few more odd parts the same but not many.

In 1989 the D1 became a branch of the RRC line, with a new body, and remained closely related.

The 1999 D2 is a completely new vehicle with very few parts in common with the earlier line, although it retains much of the drive train behind a new engine, and has very similar styling.

Most mechanical bits are interchangeable between RRC and D1, very little between these and D2.

Ok, it seems to be pretty much as I thought. I really wanted to know about things like the T/C, as I was considering buying my son's D1 as it has MaxDrive reduction gears. I'm surprised that a couple of you say the driveline, in particular the diff centres, are the same. The D1 has a rear locker, and I don't. It also has better springs and dampers, but nobody has said they'll fit...
If it wasn't for the chipped TD5 and the much better overall condition I'd sell the D2 and keep the D1. It's been consistently better off road.

Yes I can confirm the D1 diff centres fit in the D2. I put my lockers from my old D1 into my new D2 and working fine. I was going to sell them and buy some new ones for the D2 until I found out. Saved a lot of time and labor.
    Cheers, David.
