    Disco1, Disco2, defender, P38 interchangable parts.

After pulling apart the above cars, i thought i might share some info on what is available to be swapped between cars.

This can be very helpful and cost saving, example, try and find a 300tdi defender front tailshaft. They are nearly always flogged out, and when wreckers do get a good one, they ask premium. Well, they are exactly the same as all Landrover Discoverys built before 1999 which are common as, and you can pick up for under $50 on ebay.

Where do i start...... the back.

    - spare wheel carrier on a D1 is the same as an 02+ defender
    - Rear trailing arms are the same on disco and defender.
    - rear brake callipers are the same on P38 and disco2
    - Mag wheel nuts the same P38 and disco 2
    - Mag wheel nuts the same D1 and Defender
    - Fuel tank pump and pickup, the same (interchangable anyway not 100% sure on gauge reading) between Td5 Disco and Td5 Defender.
    - Transfer case the same on disco 1 and 2 apart from when they deleated the CDL (the Q cut gears mean BS, so dont be lead up that path, also after about 96 they had a X drilled imput gear, which is reccomendable especially on manual boxes)
    - A frame joints and arms the same D1 and Defender
    - rear shock mounts the same D1 and defender
    - Gearbox/engine mounts the same 200tdi and D1 V8
    - Steering box the same defender (post 92) and disco1 (bottom arm varies - pre 94 = Defender, post 94 = D1 only)
    - Inertia switch D1 and D2 the same, but defender slightly different mounting points.
    - GOOD ONE FOR LIFTED D2 OWNERS - D2 brake front brake lines, fit the rear, but are about 6" longer.... Also P38 fronts are the same as D2 front, but are 12" longer!, P38 rears are about 8" longer than D2 rears, and can also be swapped.
    - 300tdi radiators and intercoolers are the same defender and disco, the housing is different though.
    - Radiator overflow the same defender (pre td5) and all D1
    - Radiator overflow the same Td5 disco and P38
    - front window regulators the same post 96 disco S1, and discovery 2.
    - rear window reg motors, D1 post 96 left, fits the right side of a S2, and vice versa.
    - Front panhard off a D2 fits a post 02 defender
    - Rotary coupling behind steering wheel, D1 with airbag, D2, and P38 are all the same.
    - Cruise control vac pump, D1 and P38 are the same
    - Horns D1 and P38 the same.
    - front trailing arms on a d1 are the same as a defender (bushes can vary with years)
    - Interior alarm sensors are the same D1 D2 and P38
    - Sun visor clips are the same (colours can be slightly differeent, depends what colout trim)
    - loadspace light on a D1 is the same as a P38
    - Mirror switch the same D1 and D2
    - Cup holder the same D1 and D2 (picture on front different)
    - center console lid the same D1 and D2.
    - Radio surround/dash the same D1 and D2
    - indicator/blinker/headlight switches the same D1 and D2
    - Heater cores the same D1 and D2
    - jacks and handles the same, bar defender (pre 96 disco had a metal oil tank).
    - Roof rails on a D1 fit a D2 (not HSE) so you can use the D1 crossbars.
    - fuel caps d1 (not sure about tdi), d2, p38 all fit each other (they also fit a td5 defender, but it has no lock).
    - Diffs, d1 the same as defender front post 94 and pre 02
    - D2 diffs are post 02 defender front (disco2 rears same as the front, but pinion flange different)
    - D1 and defender post 94 Cv joints the same, ABS disco cvs will also fit a defender (not sure on post 99 model defenders though)
    - P38 rear diff (pre thor i assume) is the same as the front, and i think D2, but the P38 rear has 4 spider gears, not 2. (this is strange as i thought that they were the same as an 02+ defender).
    - defender 300tdi (again not sure on td5) swivels, spindles and hubs are the same as S1 disco post 94. The ABS has slight differences, but will still fit a defender.

Will update more when i think of it/find out more.

They looked different on the flange that bolts to the axle housing, but i havent had them side by side yet, so not 100%.
