    Shock mounts!

I've drawn up a rough diagram of a shock mount that I am thinking of fitting to my next project to get rid of the need for expensive long travel shocks! Can be bolted on but I'll probably weld them on! Dont know if you'll understand the concept! It is a rough design and not to any scale. Basically when the stop pin is in (for road use) everything sits as standard. When removed it allows the upper mounting point to slide on down-ward articulation, thus allowing more travel! It is only an idea!! :? I think it could be used on front or rear of a series landy! :? Ive put it in my album (belthorpe and beyond) if any one is interested!!

P.S. how do I add pics to a post?(I still cant figure it out!) ops:

Right click on the image in your album (not the thumbnail), select properties, copy the url. Then paste the url into the post, highlight it, then click the image button.

    Hi Landy Lad
I made my own "extended" front shock extension for the front of my lifted "Toy" suspension.
I used a Rear series 3 shocky, but fabricated a lower screw on lower eye mount.I got an old eye,2 nuts that screw onto the shocky and 2 bits of 1 inch flat bar.
I screwed the nuts on the shocky, fitted the shocky, put the old eye on the lower mount then tack welded everything where it needed to be,dismanteled then welded up properly.
Best part about it is,I only need to buy rear shocks for the front, then screw my adapter on the shock. For the rear I used standard Defender shocks.

Giving it a bit more thought, although this is a great concept i dont think it will work.

    How will it slide? Bearings?.
As soon as it goes anywhere near dirt they will fill up and not move. The friction in volved will be huge as the plates will be under a lot of horizontal forces also resisting the sliding movement.
The shocks will probably jam so when on complession the stroke will be to long and the shock will self combust over time.

This is just in my opinion of course.

    Dave.
