Diary of TDI Conversion - Day 5 TDI is out

    G'day Guys,

Day 4 was a write off due to the crook weather we had in Sydney.

Day 5 was the removal of the TDI motor and gearbox:

To make it easier I cut the front slam panel out first

    out she comes

    hmmmm nice TDI

Now I was excited, so I could not resist a dry fit of the TDI in the RR chassis

    G'day OI

No complaints (YET) but I have been told It's being called "Steptoe & Son" place. 8O

I think they need to be worried when I get my "Land Rover un-official repairer Centre" signage made up for the new garaage and workshop extension we have planned for this year!!!

Most of my neighbours are good - one lends me his mig welder / another is a welder and he does all my welding, the rest a just a bit courious why I'd bother!!!

    It's all about being different.

YEAH but I'm doing all my work!!!

I cannot afford these high cost engineers like you!!! PLUS I enjoy getting hands on - makes a change from my normal daily job.

She's coming along, hope to have it all in one pile by the end of next week - but I doubt it will be on the road till end of April as I have to rewire / do the breaks / engineers certs etc.

    BTW who's doing your engineering?

Haven't worked that out yet, but we should try and tee it up together to get a group discount.

If you want the contact details for Cousin John's engineer?

He seems reasonable. John has kept him in the loop during the convoluted journey. He has been helpful with advice. Keeping up with changes in the rules has been a challenge.

This is as genuine as I can trace - the first owner was non other than Land Rover Australia!!! then a guy in Perth - I spoke to him last week, he bought it with 5,000km on it and sold it about 18 months ago with just over 100,000km.

The story goes it's been serviced every 5,000 km had a minor cam belt kit (new belt / pulleys / bearings) in 2002 etc etc

So hopefully I've got a good un
